govfollowersgraph4Republican Paul LePage has joined Twitter, while Jacobson’s follower number seems to be stabilizing. Rowe has overtaken Scarcelli and now has the most followers amongst the Democrats. Green Independent Lynne Williams has more followers than several candidates, including Democrat Libby Mitchell and Independent Eliot Cutler. Note also that Otten and Poliquin have now had the same number of followers for two weeks running, which is interesting.

As a side note, Scarcelli may have been the first gubernatorial candidate to participate in #followfriday last week, giving us a shout-out, and we appreciate it. Mills and Dion continue to ignore Twitter.

This week we’re also taking a look at how the parties compare in their use of Twitter. Republicans thus far have used the medium more frequently than Democrats:

Of course, your amount of Twitter content is unlikely to determine your ultimate electoral success, but it is interesting that Republicans and independents are using Twitter the most, accounting for almost three-quarters of total Tweets by gubernatorial candidates.
